A resort-inspired patio retreat: combining elegance with family functionality
Transforming a backyard patio into a multi-functional oasis is no small task, especially when the goal is to balance the needs of a young family with a space that’s perfect for entertaining. This project achieved just that, blending timeless aesthetics with modern practicality to create a resort-like retreat.

The clients, a family of five with three young children, dreamed of a backyard that could serve as both a family hub and an entertainment space. They envisioned a tranquil, resort-inspired atmosphere where they could relax after a busy day, enjoy meals together, and host gatherings. Durability and safety were non-negotiables given the needs of their young family.
Our challenge was to craft a space that seamlessly combined functionality with an elegant design. By zoning the patio for distinct uses and integrating natural elements, we brought this vision to life while ensuring every detail met the family’s lifestyle requirements.
A space for gatherings
This patio was carefully designed to meet the diverse needs of the family. A large dining area under a sleek awning provides a shaded spot for meals and entertaining, complete with a spacious wooden table and woven chairs. Adjacent to this, a seating area featuring rattan furniture and plush cushions offers a cozy place to relax and enjoy casual conversations. The BBQ zone, tucked into a convenient corner, keeps the cooking space separate from other activities while maintaining easy access.
Functionality was enhanced with thoughtful additions like the awning, which features integrated mosquito nets to ensure uninterrupted enjoyment of the outdoors. Recessed lighting and pendant lamps illuminate the space, creating a welcoming ambiance for evenings. To bring the design closer to nature, lush garden beds filled with hydrangeas and greenery were incorporated, framing the patio and blending the hardscaping into the surrounding landscape.
Product used in this space
The standout feature of this project is the use of Techo-Bloc's Westmount pavers in Chestnut Brown, arranged in a classic herringbone pattern. This choice combines durability and elegance, ensuring a safe, slip-resistant surface for the family while capturing the warm, earthy tones that define the patio's aesthetic. The rich texture and color variations of the Westmount pavers seamlessly tie the hardscaping to the natural elements of the garden beds, reinforcing the tranquil, resort-like atmosphere of the space.
Natural wood furniture and rattan accents complement the pavers, adding warmth and a tactile appeal that enhances the design’s organic feel. Together, these elements create a cohesive outdoor retreat that balances timeless style with practical functionality, designed to be enjoyed for years to come.
